The Parthenon Frieze; 443 - 438 BCE; low relief marble sculpture which adorned the Parthenon of Athens; British Museum

The frieze shows the procession of the Panathenaia, the main feature of the Great Panathenaic festival in honor of the goddess Athena, who was the protector of the city of Athens. Every four years Athenians held games and sacrifices and honored the goddess.
